Amanda was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina.  Although she explains that her parents are very supportive of her chosen profession, and that her father has a ‘healthy respect’ for animals, Amanda was relegated to the ‘pocket pet’ variety growing up.  However, she credits her three childhood guinea pigs: Sammy, Archie, and Charlie, for her love of exotics.  Amanda states that she has always wanted to be a veterinarian, a declaration she first made in the second grade.

Amanda attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University for her undergrad, where she majored in Laboratory Animal Science.  She is currently in her fourth year at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, completing her doctorate of veterinary medicine.  As Amanda loves to travel, she’s taken every opportunity during her time at Purdue University to gain hands-on experience in other countries.  She’s studied eastern animal medicine and acupuncture in China, and spent two weeks in the Animal Medical Center in Belize City, Belize.  Amanda is excited to gain even more such experience at Craig Road Animal Hospital, and from doctors from ‘all walks of life’, as she describes.

So far, the most rewarding part of veterinary medicine for Amanda is client education, with a focus on the management of chronic diseases, and making animals comfortable as they age.  In her spare time, Amanda enjoys the theater and cinema, discovering new places to eat, and of course, traveling!

Welcome to Craig Road Animal Hospital, Amanda!
