Say “hello” to Jernea, the newest extern at Craig Road Animal Hospital!

A native of San Diego, California, Jernea is a fourth-year student at Ross University in St. Kitts and Nevis, located in the Caribbean. Jernea said she knew she wanted to work with animals from the time she was in kindergarten. She graduated from California State University, San Marcos with a Bachelor’s in Biology. After graduating, Jernea applied to the School of Veterinary Medicine at Ross University.

While living in California, Jernea volunteered with the Humane Society in San Diego as an adoption coordinator, the Helen Woodword Animal Center in Southern California as a dog walker, and as a guide at the San Diego Zoo.

“I would really love to work with exotics, and small animals as well,” she said. “So, right now, I’m looking more into general practice, as a way to learn more about the basics.”

Jernea heard about the externship program from a colleague at Ross University, Dr. Tiffany Moore, who highly recommended the program. During her externship at Craig Road, Jernea said she’s most looking forward to getting as much experience as she can and working with small animals.

“I’ve heard the doctors here are really great, so I definitely want to look up to them as mentors,” she said.

In her spare time, Jernea enjoys being outdoors, hiking, exploring, traveling, and indulging in the occasional Netflix binge. She is the proud owner of a Hound-mix named Jackson.

Welcome to the team, Jernea!
