Please welcome, Kaylyn! The newest extern to join the team at Craig Road Animal Hospital!

Kaylyn is a fourth-year veterinary medical student at Mississippi State University and will graduate in May 2022. Growing up in Santa Clarita, California, Kaylyn said she knew from a young age that she wanted to become a veterinarian. She said she would come home with stray kittens and puppies, and has always had a life-long love of animals.

“Once I got into school and really into the science, I thought, ‘Oh, I can combine the two together! That’s perfect!'” Kaylyn said. She had several pets growing up, including dogs, birds, and hamsters.

Kaylyn attended William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi for her undergraduate studies. She received her Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences with a Pre-Veterinary emphasis and minored in Chemistry. During her time at William Carey, Kaylyn worked at a local animal clinic as a veterinary technician. She’s also done volunteer work, like providing safe rides for inebriated passengers and delivering food to Hattiesburg residents after a tornado damaged the town.

Kaylyn said she heard about the externship program from Dr. Tiffany Moore at Lone Mountain Animal Hospital, one of her classmates and a friend from when Kaylyn attended Ross University before transferring to Mississippi State. Kaylyn said she would see Dr. Moore’s posts on Facebook and became interested in applying to the externship program.

Now that she’s in Las Vegas for her externship, Kaylyn said she’s most looking forward to learning from a multitude of doctors and applying what she’s learned in the classroom to real-life cases.

“The clinic I was at was pretty small, so it’ll be interesting to see how a larger practice operates,” she said. Kaylyn added she’s most interested in general practice, exotics, and internal medicine.

In her spare time, Kaylyn enjoys going to the gym, working out, and doing outdoor activities like hiking. She also enjoys napping and Netflix. Kaylyn has a 10-year-old Pitbull named Ceno who, according to Kaylyn, has a lot of puppy energy still.

Welcome to the team, Kaylyn!
