The Los Angeles County Veterinary Public Health Department has received funding from the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to test pets exposed to COVID-19 for free.
While the press release does not provide much more in the way of additional information it does show that, from the limited testing that they have already performed, there does not seem to be many positive results. The current understanding of COVID-19 transmission seems to indicate that while pets can become infected by humans, it is extremely difficult for pets to transmit COVID 19 to humans.
The doctors and staff at Craig Road Animal Hospital will continue to monitor the latest research and findings on COVID-19 and pets and will make every effort to keep our clients informed and up to date.
