Meghan is a globe-trotting, third-year student at Ross University on St. Kitts in the Caribbean.
Originally from County Kildare in Ireland, Meghan said she grew up on a farm and has always been surrounded by animals. She knew she always wanted to be a veterinarian and is the first in her family to pursue animal medicine. Meghan relocated to Redlands, California, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Redlands University.
“I’ve been all over the place,” Meghan said about her volunteer experience. “I started at a lot of cat sanctuaries, besides farm work, and then I moved and I worked with a volunteer vet. We used to travel for spay and neuters, and then help the local catteries.”
Meghan also said she works a lot with local farmers and the community on St. Kitts. She is looking to specialize in animal surgery after completing her education.
She learned about the externship program at Craig Road Animal Hospital at Ross University. It was a program that was recommended by the school and other students. Meghan said she sent off her resume and arrived for the program about a year later.
In her spare time, Meghan said she likes sports and is an outdoorsy person. She enjoys windsurfing, scuba diving, and snowboarding.
She rescued two island kitties and later adopted them! Meghan’s cat’s names are Calypso and Azrael.
Welcome to the team, Meghan!
