Caitlyn is a first-year student at North Carolina State CVM and will be graduating May of 2025. She was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and choose NCSU because of its prestige, closeness to home and affordability. She graduated from Campbell University in 2021 with a Bachelor in Biology and Minors in Spanish and Honors Interdisciplinary Studies.
“I always wanted to be a veterinarian. I started volunteering at vet hospitals when I was 12 and knew that was what I wanted to do with my life.” She says. Currently, she owns two dogs, a 2-year-old Border Collie mix named Milo and an 8-month-old Golden retriever named Maple. Her parents look after her two quarter horses. Caitlyn grew up around a large variety of animals, including 4H show animals.
She came to learn about the externship program at Craig Road Animal Hospital from the current North Carolina State representative, Amy. Her mentor also did an externship at the hospital during her time at NCSU. Caitlyn believes Craig Road Animal Hospital offers a great mentorship and is a good stepping stone for anyone’s career.
“The support staff is super knowledgeable and the hospital is well managed.” She says.
When she isn’t studying or in class, Caitlyn takes part on her university’s Track & Field team as a Hammer Thrower. It takes a majority of her time. However, she also enjoys the outdoors and partakes in horseback riding, hiking, skiing and weight lifting.
