Originally from Fresno, California, Sophia’s journey with animals began at an early age. Growing up with dogs and cats, she embraced the responsibility of caring for her family’s pets, which quickly grew into a passion. Alongside her mother, Sophia also tended to neighbors’ horses, deepening her connection with animals and inspiring her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Sophia’s dedication to animal care led her to volunteer at a local animal shelter during high school. This passion carried her to Fresno State University, where she majored in Animal Science. In 2020, she graduated, ready to take the next step toward her dream.
Sophia is currently attending the University of Arizona’s College of Veterinary Medicine and is expected to graduate in 2025.
During her externship, Sophia is looking forward to honing her clinical skills to become a well-rounded veterinarian. Although she’s no stranger to Las Vegas, she’s eager to explore the natural beauty beyond the city’s famous strip.
In her free time, Sophia enjoys cooking, reading, watching shows, practicing yoga, and spending time with her two pets: Lobo, a 6-year-old German Shepherd, and Skippy, a 14-year-old domestic shorthair cat.
Sophia draws inspiration from her cousin, a high school senior who dreams of entering the veterinary field, and she is committed to mentoring and supporting her. As a woman of color, Sophia is also dedicated to contributing to the diversification of the veterinary profession.
