Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Ni’Ja developed a deep love for animals early in life. She begged her parents for years for a pet, but the mission didn’t succeed until age 12, when she famously negotiated her own terms. When her stepdad asked if she would let him marry her mom, Ni’Ja replied, “Yes, as long as you get me a flatscreen TV and a dog.” He agreed, and she proudly welcomed her dog into the family right before the wedding.
Throughout middle and high school in Chicago, Ni’Ja volunteered with Safe Humane Chicago and several local shelters. She also completed a young veterinary student program at University of Illinois, further shaping her passion for animal care. At just 16 years old, she graduated high school and made a bold move to start her next chapter outside of Chicago.
Ni’Ja relocated to Texas to attend University of North Texas for her undergraduate studies, where her animal career quickly became official. As soon as she turned 18, she began working as a kennel technician at a local emergency clinic, then advanced steadily into becoming a veterinary technician, developing strong clinical skill sets and earning greater responsibility in patient care.
She later completed her master’s degree at UNT Health Science Center.
Ni’Ja is currently a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student at Western University of Health Sciences with an expected graduation year of 2027. Her veterinary journey took a remarkable global turn during the summer when she traveled to South Africa, performing physical exams and medical assessments on rhinos, elephants, and lions, an experience that broadened both her clinical perspective and confidence.
During her externship, Ni’Ja is focused on learning from a variety of doctors, observing different approaches to cases to develop her own clinical and surgical style, and gaining as much surgical and hands-on experience as possible.
While in Las Vegas, Ni’Ja is excited to explore local shows and enjoy the entertainment the city offers in her free time.
