Originally from St. Thomas in the United States Virgin Islands, Nailah grew up in a family that always had animals in the home. Surrounded by cats and a beloved family aquarium, she developed an appreciation for animal care early in life. Today, she shares her life with Milo, a domestic shorthair cat, and Beau, a Saint Bernard who is training to become a psychiatric service dog.
Nailah knew she wanted to become a veterinarian when she realized her passions for medicine and animals could come together in one career. She was also motivated by the lack of veterinary professionals who looked like her in her hometown, inspiring her to become someone future generations could see themselves in. Her passion lies in improving animals’ quality of life through effective pain management and compassionate medical care, helping families maximize the time they have with their beloved companions.
She earned her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University before continuing her veterinary education at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Nailah is currently a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine and anticipates graduating in May 2028.
This is Nailah’s first time visiting Las Vegas, Nevada, and she is excited to experience a new city while learning from a high-volume surgical practice. She was particularly drawn to the externship because of the opportunity to gain extensive anesthesia experience and observe a wide variety of surgical procedures.
During this externship, Nailah is focused on expanding her knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia while refining venipuncture techniques and developing a deeper understanding of anesthetic drug protocols for different patients. Following graduation, she hopes to complete an internship before specializing in veterinary anesthesia.
Outside of the hospital, Nailah enjoys practicing taekwondo, playing video games with her brother, drawing, singing, and modeling whenever she has free time.
