Originally from Houston and San Antonio, Texas, Megan grew up surrounded by a wide variety of animals, including dogs, cats, gerbils, fish, millipedes, and hermit crabs. Her lifelong love for medicine, surgery, and animals inspired her to pursue veterinary medicine, and today she shares her home with Jasper, a cat, and Emily, a toy poodle mix.
Megan first knew she wanted to become a veterinarian at seven years old. Although she explored other careers in science and medicine as she grew older, she found herself returning to veterinary medicine during her senior year of high school. She realized that being a veterinarian would allow her to combine her passion for medicine with the opportunity to be a voice for animals while supporting the people who care for them.
She earned her undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University before continuing her veterinary education at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Megan is currently a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine and anticipates graduating in May 2028.
This is Megan’s first time visiting Las Vegas, Nevada, and she is excited to experience a new city while learning from the V.O.S. team. After hearing outstanding feedback about the externship from fellow veterinary students and attending a Lunch & Learn hosted through VBMA, she was eager to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from doctors and technicians who are passionate about teaching.
During this externship, Megan is focused on expanding her hands-on clinical skills, including ultrasonography, cystocentesis, spay and neuter surgery, venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, endoscopy, and suturing. She has a particular interest in emergency medicine, soft tissue surgery, exotic animal medicine, and shelter medicine. Following graduation, she hopes to enter an emergency medicine mentorship program to continue developing her clinical confidence and surgical skills.
Outside of the hospital, Megan enjoys attending live music events, trying new restaurants, hiking, playing the clarinet, and shopping.
