Meet Lindsey, one of the newest externs here at Craig Road Animal Hospital!
Growing up in Virginia Beach, VA, Lindsey said for as long as she can remember, she’s wanted to be a veterinarian.
“There’s a picture of me in the first grade at the ‘Student of the Month’ board, and it said, ‘What do you wanna be when you grow up?’ and I wrote down a veterinarian,” she said. “I haven’t really considered anything else!”
Lindsey attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University [Virginia Tech] for her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She initially majored in Biology, but the coursework (which consisted of large animals and plants) didn’t really interest her. After graduating, Lindsey applied to the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, where she is currently a fourth-year student.
Lindsey has volunteered with the Virginia Beach SPCA and at a small, private practice in her hometown. While volunteering at the SPCA, Lindsey gained a lot of experience in shelter medicine. She learned about the externship program at Craig Road Animal Hospital from a colleague who had previously been an extern at Craig Road, and they “spoke very highly” about the program. Lindsey said she’s most excited about learning from a large, diverse group of doctors.
“I’ve worked at two practices and they were pretty small,” she said. “They only had a handful of doctors, so I think it’ll be interesting to see a variety of cases and see how everyone approaches it differently.”
Her main interests in animal medicine include animal behavior and shelter medicine. In her spare time, Lindsey enjoys getting outside, whether it be hiking or water sports. She also enjoys listening to music, going to concerts, and indulging in the occasional Netflix binge. Lindsey owns a rescued Pitbull named Luna that she fostered for a year.
Welcome aboard, Lindsey!
