Born in China and raised in San Francisco, Katheryn grew up with a variety of pets including fish, turtles, mice, and hamsters.
Her passion for veterinary medicine began early when she frequented a neighborhood pet store every weekend, spending entire days observing animals. This, combined with watching animal-related shows and her love for science, sparked her interest in animals at an early age. By 5th grade, she had already decided to become a veterinarian.
In 9th grade, Katheryn would travel an hour via public transport to volunteer at a wildlife shelter every weekend. She also gained experience working with exotic animals at the SPCA.
During her college years, Kathryn conducted research with sheep, pigs, and guinea pigs, while also working as a veterinary assistant at clinics treating cats and dogs.
She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at UC Davis in 2022 and is currently attending UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, expected to graduate in 2027.
During this externship, Katheryn is looking forward to gaining more surgical experience, doing more blood draws, and placing catheters. While in Las Vegas, she plans to enjoy the famous buffets and try her luck with a bit of gambling—just enough to fund more buffet visits!
In her spare time, Kathryn enjoys watching movies and dramas, playing games, attending shows, and visiting museums.
Although she doesn’t currently have pets, Kathryn looks forward to adopting rats in the future.
