Jessica is originally from Des Moines, Iowa. Growing up surrounded by dogs, she developed a deep appreciation for animals from an early age. With a pediatrician father, Jessica was naturally exposed to healthcare environments, which, combined with her experiences accompanying her pets to veterinary appointments, fostered her interest in veterinary medicine.
Her veterinary journey began formally during junior high when she attended veterinary camp at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for two consecutive years, an experience that cemented her career aspirations.
During her undergraduate studies, Jessica briefly shadowed a veterinarian before the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted this opportunity. She returned to her hometown and secured a position as a veterinary assistant at a local hospital. She has maintained this connection throughout her academic journey, working there during breaks from veterinary school. Over five years, Jessica progressed from a veterinary assistant role to becoming a veterinary technician, a position she continues to hold.
Jessica completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in December 2022. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine with an anticipated graduation in 2027.
During this externship, Jessica is particularly interested in surgical procedures and understanding the clinical workflow from initial assessment to treatment completion.
This is her first visit to Las Vegas, and she’s excited to explore and see a few shows, including Cirque Du Soleil. She also wants to visit the Hoover Dam, the Strip, and local attractions.
In her free time, Jessica enjoys reading, swimming, crocheting, and watching movies.
