Please welcome Cecilia, the newest extern to join the team at Craig Road Animal Hospital!
Cecilia is a fourth-year veterinary medical student at North Carolina State University (NC State) and will graduate in May 2022. Cecilia grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and wanted to become when a veterinarian after realizing her dream of becoming Clara in “The Nutcracker” wasn’t going to be enough. When she started applying to universities, Cecilia began working in a family friend’s animal clinic to test the waters and see if pursuing a career in animal medicine was something she wanted to do.
“I really enjoyed it and then I really enjoyed everything I did during my undergrad,” Cecilia said.
She attended Clemson University in South Carolina for undergrad and majored in Animal and Veterinary Science with a minor in French. Cecilia went straight to NC State for vet school and worked at the clinic as a tech and in kennel whenever she could. She also spent part of her time doing different levels of research and modeling different diet studies.
Cecilia said she’s most interested in exotics, surgery, and nutrition when it comes to animal medicine.
“I think nutrition is important for every pet, especially exotics husbandry, that’s one of the largest parts of it,” she said. “It’s so simple to do the basic nutrition calculations and we see so many overweight pets.”
Cecilia heard about the externship program at Craig Road during a virtual talk about externships and from Amy, our student representative at NC State. Now that she’s here for her externship, Cecilia said she’s most looking forward to seeing how a large clinic operates and to be in a different part of the country.
In her spare time, Cecilia enjoys cooking, dancing, and going on runs with her dog, Dottiebelle.
Welcome to the team, Cecilia! We’re happy to have you here.
