Autumn Harris grew up in Detroit, Michigan, where her love for animals began at a young age. Growing up, she cared for a variety of pets including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rats, and a rabbit, which helped foster her passion for working with animals and inspired her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Autumn knew she wanted to become a veterinarian from an early age. Her motivation for entering the field comes from her desire to help animals, increase access to veterinary care, and advocate for animals in need.
She attended Wayne State University for her undergraduate studies and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Michigan State University. Autumn is expected to graduate in May 2027.
Autumn has a strong interest in surgery and critical care, along with a passion for internal medicine and emergency medicine. She is particularly eager to continue developing her surgical and procedural skills as she gains more clinical experience.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Autumn enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors. In her free time, she enjoys going to the gym, cooking, and traveling.
She has visited Las Vegas several times and was drawn to the externship opportunity because of the welcoming environment, strong sense of community, and the opportunity to learn from veterinarians who enjoy teaching.
After graduation, Autumn plans to pursue an internship to further develop her clinical skills, with the long-term goal of eventually opening her own veterinary practice.
