Originally from the island of Guam, Xavier grew up surrounded by cats and dogs. His very first pet was Tanner, a male orange Persian cat who helped foster his love for animals from an early age. Today, Xavier shares his life with three cats named Sansa, Arya, and Nymeria, all named after characters from one of his favorite television series, Game of Thrones.
Xavier knew he wanted to become a veterinarian when he was around seven years old. His passion for the profession comes from his love of caring for animals, helping others, and pursuing a career where he can make a meaningful impact. He believes veterinarians have the ability to make a difference in communities wherever they practice.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Guam before continuing his veterinary education at Washington State University.
Xavier is currently a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student at Washington State University and anticipates graduating in May or June 2027.
Having visited Las Vegas before, Xavier is excited to return and experience veterinary medicine in the city he hopes to call home after graduation. He discovered the V.O.S. externship program while searching online for opportunities and chose to complete his externship in Las Vegas because he plans to begin his veterinary career in the area.
During this externship, Xavier is focused on gaining as much knowledge and hands-on experience as possible. He has a particular interest in areas commonly seen in general practice, including general surgery, dentistry, dermatology, and internal medicine. His experience with a shelter medicine rotation has been one of the highlights of veterinary school, particularly because of the hands-on experience and practical knowledge he gained. Xavier approaches his education with a desire to understand veterinary medicine as a whole rather than focusing too narrowly on one area, and he is also interested in learning more about the business and management side of the profession.
Following graduation, Xavier plans to begin his veterinary career in Las Vegas, where he hopes to continue developing his skills and making a positive impact on the animals and families he serves.
Outside of the hospital, Xavier enjoys going to the gym, watching television, reading when he has the time, and taking long walks on the beach.
