Hailing from Las Vegas, Tatiana’s passion for animals was sparked by her childhood experiences. Growing up in a neighborhood where she witnessed animal neglect, she felt a deep-seated desire to make a difference, but she was too young to take action. These early experiences ignited her passion for working with animals and led her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
She went to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she completed her undergraduate studies and further pursued her Master’s degree. Since 2014, she has been a dedicated technician in the field, primarily focusing on emergency care. A memorable experience for her was volunteering at a low-income clinic, helping community members keep their pets’ vaccinations up-to-date.
Currently, she is attending Western University of Health Sciences located in Pomona, California, with an anticipated graduation date of May 17, 2024. Her career goal is to specialize in emergency veterinary medicine.
She strongly believes in the power of representation and aims to be a role model for young African Americans interested in veterinary medicine. With only 2% of veterinarians being African American, she plans to increase that number by mentoring and teaching children and young adults about the veterinary field, following in her father’s footsteps who was a prominent mentor in her community.
When she isn’t busy studying or caring for animals, she loves being active and spending time outdoors, often with her 9-year-old Bichon named Milo. She also enjoys experiencing new cultures, visiting art museums, sightseeing, and exploring. As she looks forward to graduating, she plans to devote more time to leisure reading and enjoying life, which includes karaoke nights with friends.
