Introducing Sarah, the newest extern to join the Craig Road Animal Hospital team!
Sarah is a 4th-year veterinary medical student from University of Missouri and will graduate in May 2021. She grew up in Arkansas and has always known she wanted to be a veterinarian. When Sarah was in second grade, her teacher made a comment that Sarah told all her classmates that she was “going to be a veterinarian and treat people’s pets”.
“All my life we have had animals from dogs and cats to horses, rabbits, turtles, fish,” Sarah said. “I have always loved animals and have always been known for caring and healing any animal that came across my path.”
After graduating high school, Sarah attended Drury University where she obtained a B.A. in Biology and Chemistry with a Minor in History. While an undergraduate, Sarah started working for the local zoo as a zookeeper for about 5 years.
Sarah heard about the externship at Craig Road during a Lunch-and-Learn event. The warmer weather and the experiences she heard from previous externs encouraged Sarah to choose Craig Road for furthering her knowledge and providing hands-on experience that would help build her confidence as a veterinarian.
“I wanted a place that was hands-on and interactive rather than just a shadowing experience,” Sarah said.
Sarah is interested in going into either general practice or specializing in Ophthalmology. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys hiking, binge watching the TV show “Psych,” and spending time with her family and friends.
She and her fiance have three dogs: a corgi named Jeter, a German Shepherd named Inka, and a Brittany Spaniel named Nick. They also have a cat named Maya.
