Introducing Sarah, the newest extern to join the team at Craig Road Animal Hospital!

Sarah grew up just outside of the Philadelphia area. She is currently a fourth-year student at Ross University, located on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean, and is finishing her clinical year at Colorado State University. She obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from the University of Alabama. Having grown up around horses, Sarah knew from a young age she wanted to be a veterinarian.

“I knew I always wanted to do something with animals, but I would say, not until I was entering high school, I realized I really wanted to do it,” she said. “I started shadowing one of the vets that took care of my horses, and then, when I was in college I started doubting myself, thinking I wasn’t smart enough or couldn’t do it. But I stuck with it, and I’m glad I did.”

Some of Sarah’s volunteer experience includes shelter work in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and a mission trip to El Salvador to build houses and a new water system for a small village. Sarah also did an externship in Belize during her first year at Ross University.

Sarah is interested in oncology and surgery. She heard about the externship at Craig Road from her fellow classmates who were also externs at Craig Road.

“Everyone said they just loved this externship, and it was really worth doing it,” Sarah said. She’s most excited to be working at a small animal clinic after working with horses for a few weeks and to be in a general practice setting.

In her spare time, Sarah enjoys hiking with her 2-year-old Island dog, Mowgli, reading, spending time with her friends, and exploring the beer brewing culture in Colorado.

Welcome aboard, Sarah!
